The Gig Harbor
Peninsula Museum is located at the north end of Gig
Harbor Bay and allows visitors a place to experience
the history of Gig Harbor and the surrounding area. A
permanent display is augmented with rotating specific
and traveling exhibits. The Museum will be relocated
in the future to a new multi-million dollar facility,
highlighted by the Shenandoah, a purse seiner built in
a Gig Harbor shipyard and the Midway schoolhouse. (www.gigharbormuseum.org)
Both Fox Island and Key
Peninsula house their own exhibits in local museums,
relating early days in the area.
While Gig Harbor was
once most known for its fishing and logging, it is now
also known for its numerous art galleries, art walks
and art shows. There are over a dozen galleries. (www.GHKP-CulturalArts.org)
The well-known July art festival showcases local and
regional artists who work in stained glass, oils,
pottery, watercolors, wood and other mediums.
Two theatre companies
located mostly in downtown Gig Harbor, provide
entertainment year-round, including dinner theatre and
summer outdoor theatre.
Pierce County Public
Library is located off Highway 16 in Gig Harbor and
offers complete web-based services. Research can be
done online with just a library card. (www.pcl.lib.wa.us)
